Yes, but it covers only cases on a level like "show me options with --help and unserstand it". A LPIC-3 specialty should go beyond that. My example of a missing include of errno.h or detecting missing libs and versions of them is not covered. "Understand basics of invoking make to compile programs." ^^^^^^ (leaving room for more) "Apply parameters to a configure script." (Fixing errors is not covered.) > Tools like strace and ltrace are addressed in LPIC-202, ref > http://www.lpi.org/eng/certification/the_lpic_program/lpic_2/exam_202_detailed_objectives > "Tools and utilities to trace software and their system and library calls" IMHO it means: Do you know these tools and some CLI options? IMHO It does not mean: Do you know how to interpret setjmp()? > Aren't there already certifications for software engineers, e.g. Got me. ;-) As I already wrote it was meant as something like "programming skills" not as a formal mean. But stop! I only talked about programming experience/skills, but if other certs for "software engineering" exist, it does not by default mean that there *should* be no LPI certification about this topic. :-) Frank -- EDV Frank Bergmann Tel. 05221-9249753 LPIC-3 Linux Professional Fax 05221-9249754 Elverdisser Str. 25 email iserv...@tuxad.com 32052 Herford USt-IdNr DE237314606 _______________________________________________ lpi-examdev mailing list lpi-examdev@lpi.org http://list.lpi.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/lpi-examdev
