sorry, Mike, I didn't worry about this until now. My post was actually not meant to be a proposal for a new specialty (see below). > The other question I think you're presenting is whether LPI should > expand its purview beyond Linux as an operating system, along with > standard services used on Linux, to specific scripting languages, e.g. > Perl/Python/PHP. My approach comes from the other side: Seeing every day how different people find different solutions for daily tasks and how "professionals" differ from others. IMHO perl/python/php aren't "specific" languages. Perl is a standard language on linux and other *nix OS for many years (I'm *not* a perl programmer), python seems to be the default language for system scripts on some big modern distros and everyone who has to administrate a modern webserver has daily contacts with this thing called php. Yes, these languages are not linux-specific. But bash, sed, awk and more are also "generic" tools. (My personal view is that sysadmins can benefit even from this unloved old stuff named "C". McIlroy, Thompson, Ritchie and Co were also just sysadmins, too.) > While I think that would be a mistake, the powers behind LPI might agree > with you instead. As I mentioned my post was not a proposal but a request for comments. The response was low and the the play finished with 2:0 against. ;-) Thank you for your comments!
