sorry, Mike, I didn't worry about this until now. My post was actually not
meant to be a proposal for a new specialty (see below).

My approach comes from the other side: Seeing every day how different
people find different solutions for daily tasks and how "professionals"
differ from others.
IMHO perl/python/php aren't "specific" languages. Perl is a standard
language on linux and other *nix OS for many years (I'm *not* a perl
programmer), python seems to be the default language for system scripts on
some big modern distros and everyone who has to administrate a modern
webserver has daily contacts with this thing called php.
Yes, these languages are not linux-specific. But bash, sed, awk and more
are also "generic" tools.
(My personal view is that sysadmins can benefit even from this unloved old
stuff named "C". McIlroy, Thompson, Ritchie and Co were also just
sysadmins, too.)

As I mentioned my post was not a proposal but a request for comments.
The response was low and the the play finished with 2:0 against. ;-)
