Exactly (to both of you). We do ask about subnetting. Sometime on /8, /16, ... boundaries but also on other random ones. The question was whether we needed to add CIDR et al to the list explicitly to avoid "I didn't think I need to know _that_" complaints from exam takers. That said, we did stop asking about specifics of classful subnets quite a while ago (ie how they're named and what IP blocks they belong to). Considering, how many people default to /8, /16, /24 subnets for their private networks, it shouldn't be a big deal. And dealing with other sized subnets is very important. > I'm really sorry if I insulted anyone. Don't apologize for doing what you're good at. ;) I think that the verdict is to mention that people are expected to know CIDR notation but the details of what makes a class A network a class A network is left for candidate to learn as they head off into their career (or supplementary learning while studying for LPIC). And they still need to know about private IP address reservations...one of which is a /12 block. Regards, --matt -- G.
