I hope that you have updated to the latest version of IFHP,
and are using the latest ifhp.conf file.

Sigh... I have been there on this one.

Welcome to the wonderful world of printing and status information.

There are actually several interrelated problems here, all of them nasty
and version dependent.

First, have you installed the latest firmware upgrade for the printer?
I hesitate on this, as you might have the German Firmware, and I don't
know if this is as up to date as the US English version. If you have the
time, I suggest you install the English firmware and see if the problem
goes away.

Next, if this does not do it, then I suggest you add 'pagecount=ps'
to the IFHP options. This will cause the ifhp filter to use PostScript
to get the current pagecounter value. It is possible that this will solve
the problem.

The problem with the 'missing pagecount' is that sometimes the status information
is not returned. You can force a more frequent attempt by setting the
pagecount_interval.

Is this reproducible on a particular system? If so, you might try using
ifhp in standalone mode and turn on debugging:

ifhp -Tdev=ip.address%9100,model=hp8100,trace,debug=1 </tmp/some.file.to.print
