I got LPRng-3.6.17.

Here we go.
This is on my backup print server running LPRng-3.6.17 on Solaris 2.7.

dummy

Clear_config: freeing everything
Match_ipaddr_value: host lpd02.SLAC.Stanford.EDU
*** Match_ipaddr_value - host (0x1001132f8) ***
info name count 1
[0] 'lpd02.SLAC.Stanford.EDU'
address type 2, length 4 count 1

Match_ipaddr_value: checked '', result 102
Match_ipaddr_value: result 134
Printer: dummy@lpd02 - no spool directory for printer 'dummy'
This looks ok.
But putting more of the things in printacp which I really want:
> tail printcap
dummy
:client
:tc=_client
dummy
:server
:oh=printserv02.SLAC.Stanford.EDU
:lp=pr@dummy
> lpq -Ddatabase+2 -Pdummy
Clear_config: freeing everything
Printer: dummy@lpd02 - no spool directory for printer 'dummy'
And "checkpc" does NOT create a spool directory if I extend printcap
even further (and deleting "lp=pr@dummy").

Aliases: printserv02.SLAC.Stanford.EDU
Just to be sure I put the alias name in /etc/hosts which does not
change anything. /etc/nsswitch.conf has the line
"hosts: dns [NOTFOUND=return] files nis"
in it.
