I don't know.  Unfortunately,  this printer is long out of support,
and my spy deep inside HP just cackled like a maniac when I asked him.

This is,  as they say,  not promising.

I suspect that there is something in the firmware of the HP printer that
is reading the EEPROM that holds the pagecounter value and is not updating this.

If you turn the printer on and off,  do you get a new value?
