I belive that I've figured out the pagecount problem with ifhp-3.3.319 and my HP
IIIsimx. The page count returned by the postscript pagecount code is changing
only when the printer is printing pages in postscript. Most of my pages print in
PCL. That page count is a completely different page count.
When I print the Postscript Test Page from the front panel it gives me two
pagecounts. The total page count and the postscript page count.
Is there a way to get the total page count from the HP IIIsi using ifhp-3.3.19?
I am currently using ":ifhp=model=hpiiisi,sync@,pagecount=ps,waitend=ps",
thereby forcing the pagecount to use the postscript routine. But that is just
getting the postscript page count. Any way to get the total page count? I don't
care if the page is printed with postscript or PCL. I want the total sheets.

I don't know. Unfortunately, this printer is long out of support,
and my spy deep inside HP just cackled like a maniac when I asked him.
This is, as they say, not promising.
I suspect that there is something in the firmware of the HP printer that
is reading the EEPROM that holds the pagecounter value and is not updating this.
If you turn the printer on and off, do you get a new value?
