I cannot state categorically that it is the lexmark printer,  but I
am running 64 bit Solaris on a Sparc 1000 and it does not do this
with HP JetDirect,  Lantronics PS2 Printservers,  and other TCP/IP
connected devices.

However,  I compiled the LPRng software on this system...
