You could, perhaps, post your printcap file?  Also,  are you using
the lastest verion of the IFHP filter?  You might also tell us the
make of printer.  This does help.  And of course,  you HAVE updated
the printer to the lastest version of the firmware so it does not
gratuitously close the printer connection?

A little bit more information perhaps?
