Gidday all,
This message consitutes a bug report and a question. First the bug??
I have a need to be able to spool directories into a specific location for
another application to pick them up and deal with them.
I thought, simple. Just create a printer that goes nowhere but has a spool
directory.
This I created.
lp2:\
:lp=:\
:sd=/usr/data:
Ran checkpc -f (no errors)
ran lpq -Plp2
The system stopped!!
Further investigation revealed that the network was still functioning but
the system would not accept any commands, logins, rsh, or anything. All I
could do was power reset the system (fortunately it is a one man test system
so no major harm done.)
But, why? Version is LPRng-3.6.19, is this a bug ie it doesn't time out
because there is nowhere to go? Is it a feature to trap those stupid enough
to try something so left field?
I have since put in a non existant remote printer and the lpq now gives a no
connection error message (which is what I expected above).
Maybe there is a better way to achieve delivery via a printqueue to a
directory rather than a printer. If there is could someone point me in that
direction?
Thanks
Wayne Blom
