I read through the rest of the note and everything looks ... ok...
I might suggest putting the Samba print commands into a script...

The most probable cause is Windows related:
  FIBKAM - Fault Is Between Keyboard and Monitor

They are using the wrong printer.  I have seen the 'mystery changing
default printer' symptom a lot.  Apparently folks change their printers
in the Windows printing setup from one application and forget to
change it back.

I suspect your DNS system MAY repeat MAY (low probability)
be causing problems.  But if you have a long TTL value on the
DNS entries (hours) then the problem should be persistent.
