Strangely,  I know the answer to this question as I have had
the same problem.  You need to set up a spooling queue on your
local system and have Samba send to the local print spooler
rather than directly to the remote system.  You do this by
the following method.

Set up a printcap with the following entries.  This will
force the lpr client to send to the server:

# for the clients
pr:lp=%P@localhost

lp:server
  # you have the rest of your existing printcap entry here.
  :....


After you do this,  you can use 'lpc reread' and then
lpq -Ppr to make sure that you see the local print spooler.
