All,
I am supporting a client with the following configuration:
HP-UX 10.20 as a print server
multiple HP workstations
multiple PC's
Sun workstations (Solaris 7)
The dilemma:
The HP workstations and PC's can print to the printers without any problems.
The Sun workstations can print to the printers as well, BUT only without
options (i.e. lp -o duplex filename). I started investigating LPRng as a
resolution to this dilemma, and after some configure and make problems were
resolved, I have an Ultra-10 running Solaris7 with LPRng installed. I can
print :) via the HP print server, but I have yet to find a way to send the
options (just like the original dilemma).
What they want:
HP print server to stay "pure" (not load LPRng)
PC's (stay as is)
Sun workstations to print via the HP print server with full print capability
(we have an HP8000DN printer that users use to print duplex for large jobs).
I'm not even sure LPRng can resolve this issue - does anyone have any input
for me? Has anyone configured a similar type of situation? Our only other
alternative is to have a Sun as a 2nd print server specifically for the Sun
users. Any thoughts or ideas are welcome.
