I'm assuming - correctly, I hope - that you _want_ to have the username
info as part of the process (it isn't required to get printing to work)

If so, you might want to look at MacLogin, because with that, you can
force a user to not only authenticate against a variety of sources, but
also use it to coerce the username they enter as the owner name, which
then translates to the username found in lprng processing.  I'm still in
the early testing stages of all of this (had to take an XP detour), but it
does display the correct username in the lprng queues I set up.  OS is
9.2.2.
