Hi,

    a) My s.o. is FreeBSD 4.5
    b) I have a bidirectional cable and port (ECP+EPP/BIOS)

I think that HP LaserJet4 don't available to read your hardware
pagecounter. The option
":rw" of printcap don't work.

The LPRng-HOWTO says:

"There are two approaches to printing accounting: use software determine
the number of pages that should be printed or use a hardware pagecounter
facility on the printer to accurately determine the number of pages
used. LPRng provides facilities to use either method to determine page
counts."

How can I use software to determine the number of pages ?
How can I configure my printcap to determine the number of pages printed
if I don't read my hardware pagecounter ?

thanks,
