We have exactly the same problem here, but we are running Solaris.

I don't think you will find _any_ new lasers with licensed Abobe
postscript.

Approx. a year ago we had problems with some PDF files that wouldn't
print. Then I upgraded lprng and removed some old print filters. And
the PDF problems got worse, an absolute nightmare. What fixed this problem
was 1) enabling tbcp - the lexmarks we have requires this to be
able to print certain docs. and 2) downgrading Acrobat Reader from 4.05
--> 4.0. Apparently the
4.05 has some bugs related to printing, although the changelog says "fixed
printing related bugs" for this version....thanks Adobe!;-) One actually
has to check carefully which version of Acrobat Reader is installed,
because if one looks in the "About Acrobat Reader..." dialog it says
"4.0" for both versions. 4.0 is the version from June 24 1999.
