The magic 'configure' option is '--disable-shared'.  It causes the
segfault problem to go away, leaving me with the problem I gave up on in
November.  Progress!

Kerberized lpr from Linux client to AIX server:
 lpr command hangs
 <ctrl>C causes lpr to finish
 job is sent successfully!

Should I switch to a supported platform?
