The original LPD software had checks to prevent people from accidentally printing binary files or executable files. This was done by looking for 'non-ascii' text in files. Due to changes in technologies, we now have perfectly reasonable files with 'non-ascii' text.
The lprng option 'check_for_nonprintable' enables this check. You should make sure that this option is OFF by default. In the /etc/lpd.conf file, look for: # Purpose: check for nonprintable file # default check_for_nonprintable@ (FLAG off) If this not the case, then edit the /etc/lpd.conf file and set: # Purpose: check for nonprintable file # default check_for_nonprintable@ (FLAG off) check_for_nonprintable@ Patrick Powell Astart Technologies [EMAIL PROTECTED] 6741 Convoy Court Network and System San Diego, CA 92111 Consulting 858-874-6543 FAX 858-279-8424 LPRng - Print Spooler (http://www.lprng.com) > From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Jul 11 06:51:21 2002 > Date: Thu, 11 Jul 2002 21:50:31 +0800 > From: Erwin Tsai <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: How to print Chinese character via lp command??? > > Dear Sir, > I had tried to print out text file which Chinses character was included > via lp command, but all my tests were failed.
