I seem to have fixed this problem. First, it seems like samba wasn't really involved at all. I was able to reproduce this problem using plain (solaris 2.6) lp and lpr commands which samba runs to forward jobs from windows to unix printing system. It turns out that if I pass a name like /var/LPFS/samba/print/smbprn.000077.3ua4eU to lp (which then forwards those jobs to LPRng server) the printer would hang with with 79.00FE error. This problem hasn't been happening until some time recently when we have installed patches on this server. However he machine hasn't been rebooted since the patches have been applied. Once I run "/etc/init.d/lp stop; /etc/init.d/lp start" everything started to magically work again.. this was really odd. Though, the fact that this somehow used to produce 79.00FE errors on our HP8150DN printer shows that there still might be some odd unresolved bugs in this printer's firmware .. -akop ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- YOU MUST BE A LIST MEMBER IN ORDER TO POST TO THE LPRNG MAILING LIST The address you post from MUST be your subscription address If you need help, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (or lprng-requests or lprng-digest-requests) with the word 'help' in the body.
