You might try to specify writable file on the file system as the
printer device so that you could collect the ifhp output. Then you can
try to send this file to your HP8100 directly using either ftp or the
lightweight version of LPRng's lpr (so that your file doesn't have to
go through LPRng and ifhp again) and see what happens. We haven't had
79.00FE errors for a while now (other that this odd problem which was
apparently caused by a wedged printing system on a Solaris box) and we
have three or four win2k clients that regularly use our HP8150DN
printers.

I noticed that our printcap entry is different from yours.
Ours looks like this:

.public
 :filter=/local/sol/2.6/depot/ifhp-3.5.10/libexec/filters/ifhp
 :sd=/home/spool/lprng/%P

hp1
 :cm=Public HP 8150DN in 708C Evans
 :ifhp=model=hp8150,duplex
 :lp=kronecker%9100
 :tc=.public

I am not sure if this is going to make a big difference. Note that we
tell ifhp what model our printer is. I believe, by default, ifhp
assumes your printer is some older LaserJet model. Again, I am not
sure if this is going to make a big difference though.
