Hi,
My personal experience about the modifications I sent to get counting pages
in the HP4100 is that I am using it for 7 months with 8 HP4100 printers and
several thousands of jobs and I have no problems with them.

I use the patched version of ifhp with the HP4100 and some others, but I
still use the original one with the rest of printers.

So then my /etc/printcap includes lines like these:
...
1b|laser_1b
         :cm=1b HP-5M
         :lp=laser1b%9100
         :if=/usr/local/bin/ifhp
...
4a|laser_4a
         :cm=4a HP-4100
         :lp=laser1b%9100
         :if=/usr/local/bin/ifhp.3.5.0-patched
...

Applying the patch (get it from Duncan's mail in this thread, because mine
has got a mistake) and use two executables, can be helpful for someone
desperate with HP4100, but it is not a definitive and suitable solution.

I think that some possible and better solutions could be:

- That HP would correct the bug into the firmware of these printers, if
this could be possible.
- Take advantage of the new "status helper" feature since ifhp-3.5.8, to
find out the waitend of job. Just here you must use SNMP as Sam says or use
PJL to get the printers status and follow the end of job detection
criterium from my patch.
- That someone (like Patrick) who knows well the ifhp code and also PJL,
could make my code into the mainstream release in a more suitable way.

Best regards.
Fernando Blanco.
CIEMAT.
