"Open_gdbm" was a problem in the early 3.7.X releases of LPRng, but Patrick ripped out the GDBM parts because of too many people running into these file-open errors. Using 3.8.X releases of LPRng should clear up this particular error. Or you can try increasing the number of file descriptors/maximum open file limit on your print spooler to some obscenely-large number and see if the problem goes away or not.
