Dear Al, This sounds like a potential filtering problem caused by the LPRng configuration selected. By this, I mean that a question is asked by LPRng of the Xerox 7700 printer at page 192 and either no answer or an unrecognized answer is received by the LPRng software in return from the Xerox 7700. Would it be possible for you to post your LPRng configuration for sending data to this particular printer to the list?
