As long as you specify the mask, it shouldn't matter.  We have a class B 
(128.105) at our site with a mask of 255.255.255.0; it works without a
problem.

I don't recall there being any notification mechanism in lpd.perms.  To 
get such notification, you may need to set up a router script and do your 
IP matching and notification from there.
