Maybe they'll put a new firmware online some day, but maybe this is not
a firmware only poblem...

However I agree with you on SNMP : it's probably the best we can use
for print accounting actually.

Do you know if any of the numerous Windows (c) (tm) (r) print
accounting software use SNMP at all ?

The only problem I can see with SNMP is that it doesn't allow the
kind of accounting offered by PrintBill, which keeps records about
ink coverage in all colors. PostScript and paper jams problems apart,
this provides fair accounting for people who print mostly black text
wrt people who always print their family color pictures...

I've done some testing with retrieving ink levels from SNMP enabled
printers (I've only got two very similar HPs, 2100 and 2200, unfortunately)
but this is not precise enough : "full", "low", "middle" is the sort of
thing I get.

As said by another poster, great work you've done here !

And now we would like to finally see the rest of the promised
document...

;-)

That's exactly what I thought before trying, after 10 years of
mostly C and assembly language. I can find many posts in newsgroups
from people who have this feeling before trying. I don't think there
is any from someone who seriously regret this feature of Python
after having tried it for a few hours. What is interesting is that
when using other languages, I now strictly respect indentation,
which gives more readability anyway.
