Hi All,
I know this is not the form for Mozilla, but maybe someone has figured out a way to do this.
I am using Red Hat 8, Mozilla Firebird 0.7 and XFce 4.x. When I go to print a web page from Firebird , I am only given an option of a post script printer. Hmmmm. My printer, which I love dearly (okidata 14e), only understands PCL 5e. Has anyone come up with a way of doing this? Can a printer be set up to convert Post Script to PCL 5e on the fly?
Just as an aside, if you haven't tried out Firebird yet, you should. It is an awesome piece of programming -- if you have a post script printer.

If you have set up a print queue for your printer with the tools coming with your distro (or by following the LPRng instructions on linuxprinting.org: http://www.linuxprinting.org/lpd-doc.html) the spooler will do the conversion from PostScript to PCL automatically. All applications (Mozilla, OpenOffice.org, KDE, ...) produce PostScript output as device-independent standard format for print jobs. It is the spooler's responsability to make the printer's native language out of it. So simply choose this "Generic PostScript printer" and the printer should print correctly.

Hi Till,
I am confused. If I select "Generic PostScript printer", won't the spooler think I want to print in Post Script?
Should I not choose a printer that is set up to print PCL instead? Like HP4000 or some such? If I am understanding
correctly, all apps product PS. So, if I print PS to a PCL printer, the queue is suppose to convert it?
I am asking this because I have an HP5Si (PCL5e) that will just print out the post script text when I
print to it from Firebird. :'(
