There's a CUPS component called "cups-lpd", a daemon that lurks
on port 515 looking for all the world like an lpd. Depending
on your CUPS package you may need to enable it in /etc/inetd.conf,
/etc/xinetd.d/cups-lpd, /etc/init.d/cups-lpd, or some such.
Your /etc/printcap entry for it looks something like:
someprinter
:rm=that.cups.host.your.domain
:rp=what_the_printer_is_called_there
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/someprinter
