Thanks for pointing this out. Kinda feel ashamed, since this is very straightforward.
My only excuse is, that I bet I always did like that earlier; with success. I did try as 'user', and it wouldn't work, of course (lack of privileges). And if memory doesn't fail me completely, I didn't log out and back as root earlier to make changes to the printcaps.
