Jeff,
The deal we made with Chip in order to get the "free" 2 years
construction, was that we could buy [EMAIL PROTECTED] reliability and
[EMAIL PROTECTED] for bursting. We could in fact use most of that 10Gb if
needs be, but imagine it will be used initially for catch-up mode.
If we are transferring 15Tb raw data that translates to ~2Gb/s over
24 hours and with compression that could drop to <1.5Gb. As is
demostrated we could easily get the raw data in 12 hours back to the
archive from the base.
nb. Incidentally 4x9s is ~ 52 secs/year and 2X9s ~3 days/year.
On a costing note for summit to base here some updated quotes.
2 X Switches for transfer of Science data = $256,000 inc 35%
EDU Discount
2 X Switches for transfer of Control data = $135,000 inc 35%
EDU Discount
DOE apparently get 50-60% discounts and also I am working with Cisco
to get the best deals we can.
Installation of Fibre (with fibre inc). from Summit to base =
$675,000 ( I have cost for 24 Fibre bundle $144,000, and now want to
quote installation costs only, to see if we win
anything) I bet we can!

Hello all,
The DM PM online meeting will be held as usual this Friday at
10:00am PDT.
We will go back to using the bridge this time as the multipoint
doesn't seem
particularly more reliable and is harder to recover when there is a
problem.
The IP for the bridge is 140.252.1.34. The telephone line is the
usual, 866
330 1200 pass code 300 2363.
The agenda is:
Cost Estimates - Resolving cost differences between individual
estimates,
status of disk I/o modeling activity, debrief of IPAC estimate
DM Reference Design - There will be review with Bill Althouse and
Don
Sweeney on Tuesday, 8/22 in Tucson. We will go over the basic
architecture
and the sizing spreadsheets for processing, storage, and network
bandwidth.
I would like the following people to be available for this review:
Ray Plante
Cristina Beldica
Chris Cribbs
Don Dossa
Ron Lambert
Tim Axelrod
Jacek Becla stand-in ???
Admin and logistics - We have resurrected the LSST_DM Calcium
calendar and
will use it exclusively from now on. There is a link to it from
Docushare.
Contact Billie Prosser for event updates/creates.
Thanks!
