Hello all,

Tim and I put together a basic roadmap for DM subsystem and LSST system
integration and test activities (posted as Document-1995). This roadmap is
being worked into the overall DM roadmap and estimates. Please use this as
a guideline for when we need to acquire infrastructure, i.e. ensure that we
plan to acquire the infrastructure in time to do burn-in/checkout and
configuration before needing it for test and integration.

Based on this roadmap, in answer to Ray's question at the TechAssessWG
yesterday, I believe we can acquire the archive services computing/storage
at the archive center at the start of 2011. The base facility
infrastructure will be acquired sooner (in 2010 and early 2011) and
configured first at the archive center and then moved to the base facility
when the physical plant is ready for it. At that time we will "backfill"
the base "clone" that will live at the archive center.

Note that we will not deploy the Data Access Center until Commissioning,
which is currently an Operations Phase activity. However, we will carry the
cost of the first year of Data Access Center infrastructure under the
Construction Proposal for now, until we find out if the NSF will require us
to budget for it in the MREFC proposal.

Also, please note that we have estimated a development system for software
development under the Auxilliary and Support WBS. This will be acquired
early in Construction.

At next week's telecon, we will discuss the ramp up of the archive services
computing/storage for re-processing/data access. We want to apply a just in
time acquisition strategy to take advantage of favorable cost trends over
time.

Jeff
