Jeff,
My feeling is that in general network bandwidths will be well in
excess of 40Gb/s by the time LSST needs it. Typically lambda
technology jumps in metrics of 2.5, 10 and 40. Around 4-5 years ago
2.5Gb was the norm with 10 being achievable but expensive. Today 10Gb
is common and 40 expensive, so count on well before 2013, 40Gb/s will
become the norm.
For reliability of the data I think you want to transmit from base to
the archive and then regenerate for forwarding to the Data Access,
with a multicast one is running blind.
