Don Sweeney Next Board meeting is next Wednesday. Have gotten good response from University Plan, i.e. Member universities are putting up money to cast the primary mirror. Three have already agreed, others are positive. New mirror contract must be set up under somewhat different terms. First light in 2013 is still possible.
Need to get working on Commmissioning tasks/budget estimates for MREFC proposal. Will need to assign a leader, create a team to work this. Idea is to keep commissioning in MREFC proposal to one year following first light ($30 - 35M). Possibly do a commissioning survey with some science after that. SDSS did this. Chuck Claver has ageed to fill in for Bill Althouse over the next few months. He will be at LSSTC several days per week, starting next Tuesday. Victor Krabbendam Telescope cost estimate is high by 30%, although not done scrubbing it for accounting errors. Expect it will still be high and is looking for ways to cut. DS - If we are still high, we will descope the project as a whole, not just the Telescope. Kirk Gilmore Working on Camera meeting at SLAC September 18, 19. Continuing with cost estimates and now working on FY07 budget. Jeff Kantor Operations information sent to Sidney Wolff today, costs are coming high, but less than IPAC estimates and defensible. Construction cost estimate is in fine tuning stage. DC1 Stage 1 was re-executed with much better results, now ready for incorporation into Stage 3. TeraGrid at NCSA is down, will start Stage 3 execution Friday or Monday, still in time for proposal results. Had briefing from NOAO DPP on E2E/DMaSS, looks like relevant technology, similar in many ways to our DC1 architecture, but cast into SOA. We will continue to track it and collaborate on requirements. Conducted first quarterly review with Pan-STARRS MOPS team. Both LSST and PS are pleased with first 3 months and have general agreement on next steps/priorities. Tim Axelrod Concerned with completeness of invitation to science collaborations, not received by all member institution departments with some interest. Steve Kahn/Don Sweeney state that it went to point of contact at each institution, POC had responsibility to forward on within institution. Deadline for applying is tomorrow, perhaps can be extended. _______________________________________________ LSST-data mailing list [email protected] http://www.lsstmail.org/mailman/listinfo/lsst-data
