Hi,
we use ltsp 2.8 with mandrake 8.1.
our server : dual P-III with 2G RAM 2 X 18 G HDD SCSI in mirror.
we use KDE 2.2 for our GUI interface.
kernel 2.4.8
We have a lab with 17 pc P-75 or 120 with 32 Megs RAM and 3Com 10Mbps.
our lab is connected to a 10Mbps hub and our server is on a 100Mbps switch
Basically our users need Netscape (4.78),Open Office 6.38c and some games like chess,
ksokoban, etc.
When we try to use it all, we encounter an extremely slow connexion. Let me explain it
in detail.
loading the graphical login is ok.
login in is ok
opening in each pc Netscape and Open Office still ok.
But after approx 5 min we have very slow connexion (we try to click on something but
it take a while before it can process correctly).
we fine tune our server as suggested in the doc
file-max = 65500
inode-max is not present
we can't find max task in /usr/src/linux/include/tasks.h even with a search on the
whole HDD.
Another question : how many terminals can we expect to run with our configuration?

We're on a big linux project with the gouvernment of Quebec in Canada. If it works
well, linux could be proposed to other school board in our province.
