Hmm, Switches or Hubs?, that question comes up from time to time.

In the case of 30 workstations and a single LTSP/Application server,
I think the more important thing is the 100mbs vs 10mbs.
A switch, in that case will really offer very little improvement
(if any) over a hub.

All of the traffic will be going between the workstations and
the server, and even then, most of the traffic is generated
by the server and received by the workstation.  The real bottleneck
is between the server and the hub/switch, and virtually all of the
traffic has to pass through that leg of the network.

A switch really helps when there are multiple servers and the workstations
aren't all talking to the same server all the time.

But then again, switches have come way down in price, so you might
as well start with switches.
