Scott,

I just played with Abiword for the first time a couple of days
ago.  It was on a full linux box.  I had to modify the XF86Config
file, to include 'Module "type1"'.

You can add that setting to the lts.conf file.
Try adding this:

    X4_MODULE_01 = type1

That should take care of that problem.
