Are you using a font server on the server or local fonts?

Abiword requires several special fonts and (on my system, at least)
throws out all kinds of screwball errors if it can't load them.

If you're using local fonts, you'll need to copy
/usr/share/AbiSuite/fonts to /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/AbiSuite/fonts and
integrate the fonts into your local font setup by running mkfontdir et
al in /opt/ltsp/i386/usr/share/AbiSuite/fonts.

If you want to try using the font server, comment out "tcp-nolisten" in
/etc/X11/fs/config and set USE_XFS = Y in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf.
This works well for small networks, but there are reports of problems in
large ones.

Let us know if this helps.
