It wasn't me, by the way, who asked this question. It was someone else. It is actually quite surprising the broad range of Linux terminal emulators that exist if you look for them. Many of the lesser knowns can be very hard to find, but look hard before giving up. We found a GPL'd emulator for the Mumps language on VMS. I also typically use x3270 for mainframe access. Most people would think it's rather cheap, but once you learn it, you realize there really aren't any features it doesn't have. It just takes a while to figure out how to turn them all on and use them.
For Linux, many things exist that aren't advertised and utilities tend to have many features that are not documented or easily visible.
