I purchased 10 ThinkNICs--I'm using one right now on one of the custom computer desks I built for them. I am about to order 10 15" LCD monitors (I have two right now that I've been testing with them).
Sound is a critical factor for me, so I will spend whatever time is required to get it working. I hope no programming is required. Sound is the only reason I chose to buy the ThinkNICs over the TCSX-1 (although the price is also appreciated). For the future, how are the D810EMO motherboards? I read they only have a monitor and four USB ports for devices, including keyboard and mouse. Yet, as I understand, they are fully Linux compatible and have PXE booting capability. My shop will open to the public no later than May 1st, although I could start as soon as March 1st, if all goes smoothly. I am also trying to come up with a plan to increase outgoing security. I will need to offer shell access to the public and don't want them hacking other systems. I think this is a big challenge.. And I will likely need to write some software to monitor for these kinds of activities. --Matthew On Sat, 16 Feb 2002, Julius Szelagiewicz wrote: > Matthew, > the fonts are dramatically better under ltsp and you get to mess > withe font selection too. 15" monitors don't quite hack it, i suggest 17' > or 15" flat panels. a good 17" easily outperforms a flat panel, because it > is hard to spend $600 for the display connected to a $200 device. > in general, my experience with thinknics taught me that i > shouldn't have wasted time modyfying the cd and jumped inot ltsp right > away. they do work great, but i have not gotten the sound on them yet. if > you have (will), please let us know how. julius > > On Fri, 15 Feb 2002, mslicker wrote: > > > > > Question: > > > > Do the ThinkNIC's fonts get less blurry when running LTSP as opposed to > > it's included CD version 2.0?
