Jim,

The chip is actually v1.4 
Here is the relevant info off the chip
Lne100v4    v1.4   100923

If you think that is the issue, I'll order a couple of newer card/chips for 
the L500r's.  These cards work fine in everything else I've tried.  I'll 
just use them in something else.
