How much memory do you have in the workstations ?

I've seen similar things happen when there isn't
much ram available.  32mb seems pretty good. Anything
less than that, I'd turn on NFS-Swap as a safety net.

But, my experience with browsers in general on linux
is that they all suck. It is just a matter of which
one sucks the least.  I'm currently using Mozilla 0.9.9
which is the best i've found so far, but it still
isn't perfect.

Is there anything in common about the web pages you
are going to ?  I've seen java and javascript pages
cause all kinds of problems with browsers.

You might try disabling both java and javascript, just
to see if it is any more stable.
