Camilo,
to print from so / oo you have to define printers using spadmin. i
find it very annoying that i need to reenetr data about printers that the
system knows about. the rationale is of course the facr that so and oo
print everything in postscript, so we might have to set up scripts that
will translate ps output from oo to something that the printers
understand.
i also found that users are often annoyed by a large choice of
printers, especially if the printer they want is not readily visible. i
solved this by writing simple scripts to take care of the local printing
and by creating a generic "AllMine" printer through spadmin. this printer
shows up first in the list. this set up is somewhat rough and doesn't ake
into account multiple printer drivers, but it works fine. look at the
scripts and adjust them to your liking. good luck, julius
the 2 scripts in /usr/local/bin are:
1. myprinter:
#myprinter - print on local printer from netscape and such by calling
.LPPS
# if it is available or pslocal if not
if [ -f $HOME/.LPPS ]
then
$HOME/.LPPS
else
pslocal
fi
2. pslocal:
#print ps output to local printer from netscape and such
myaddress=`echo $DISPLAY | cut -c3-5`
printer=`grep ^"lp$myaddress:" /etc/printcap`
#echo $printer
printer=lp$printer
if [ $printer == "lp" ]
then
lpr -
else
LOCALPRINTER=lp$myaddress
gs -q -sDEVICE=$DRIVER -sOutputFile="|lpr -P$LOCALPRINTER" -
fi
#end scripts in /usr
than you have an example of selecting a "local" printer that is not really
local, but will be an effective default for user norman:
#/home/norman/.LPPS
#print ps output to local printer from netscape and such
#set for norman points to oki in sales
#DRIVER=cdj550
DRIVER=ljet4
LOCALPRINTER=sales
gs -q -sDEVICE=$DRIVER -sOutputFile="|lpr -P$LOCALPRINTER" -
#end
