Well, aside from the downtime 'cause Johnny Outlook downloaded a virus when
someone he didn't know sent him a file...and despite your constant tutorial, he opened
it and killed all the .exe files being shared in the organization.
You have to really work hard to accrue as much cost in Linux as Windows. You have
to figure in the cost of upgrading X copies of Outlook because the files it shares
don't work with the people you communuicate with, new copies of Office because no one
can share information for more than 6-8 months and they change the file formats again.
And then there's also the cost of fending off the BSA when people just get frustrated
waiting on channels and steal a few copies of things to take home and/or install in
departments for which the licenses aren't purchased yet.
It's a zoo. And Linux is the only way outta that zoo. Stop the madness.
And the money you spend on software written for Linux helps support the movement,
and helps defeat the folks who think that Bill can take care of all his ills, as long
as we can keep paying and keep putting up with self-inflicted problems.
Now, I understand *not having* the money to buy all these copies, but if you
couldn't afford the LinuxCad, you'd probably REALLY be broke after installing Windows
solutions...you just wouldn't notice you're doing it.
Have you seen that Acad3d? It's like $30 or so. And you might want to make a
pass by Freshmeat.net, if you haven't already...
