hi there,
It just happened to succeed in running ltsp, cool...:")
But now some questions :
- i have two eth cards (still no programmed eprom) and on the boot from the floppy
instead of attaching to eth1 the driver get attached to eth0, which have different MAC
address i.e. DHCP server can't lease the IP ..etc .. (and the eth0 is not connected in
any way to the server).
So my question is how can i tell when booting from floppy which eth card to be mapped
..
My cards are eth0 (rtl8039) and eth1(rtl8139) and on the floppy i have rtl8139 driver.
- second i'm with Mandrake 9.0 with GNOME but I don't see GDM started !! Anyone to
know how it should be started. Isn't by default X server pass control to GDM. How can
I solve this ?
In fact i just typed "gdm" on the server console and got yet another X :"{, but the
client now was able to login...
In the FAQ there is troubleshooting if xdm/gdm/kdm is started, but nothing what to do
if there is no such !!
- third question, probably not feasable but is there a way to not use "nfs" but
"samba" instead... i'm not familiar so much with nfs in fact one of the problems i had
was with nfs. (i think probably not 'cause how access-rights of the linux-fs will be
preserved over samba)
- Could u list me the EPROM chips i can use... (i mostly will use realtek chip based
cards). I want their names, so that i know for what to search.
And now some things which will be good if are included into the FAQ
- example of /etc/exports i.e.
/opt/ltsp/i386 ws001(rw)
there is ppl which have never been using nfs before, like me :")
- mention that in the dhcp the required mac address is the mac address of the
eth-card-itself, not some number stored in the ROM-image.(i searched for such info and
tried eth-mac, so it worked..but..)
- for mdk9 users if u get problem not able to boot 'cause portmap is not enabled and
nfs hangs forever ..... then run CD1, use rescue mode and delete /etc/rc.d/SXXnfs ...
when u boot normaly u can now take care of seting the services... in my case i had to
do manualy or with chkconfig instead of ntsysv, which didn't helped..
ok.. that is for now.. thanx for your attention
see ya
