I remember having this issue when SuSE 8.0 was released. I searched the archives of this list and found some reference to a the version number inside some file in /etc (probably /etc/.SuSE-release looking at my /etc now) containing the SuSE version number. I just had to set this back temporarily to 7.3 and the installation went ok. Same might be true if you set yours back to 8.0.
