Phil, your suggestion of changing the suse ver# from 8.1 to 8.0 in the
suse-release file worked.  Thank you!!
I am new to Linux and ltsp but it looks exciting.  I used to be an IBM
mainframe programmer and it appears
from this project that mainframe concepts are again becoming popular,
only this time using pc tech.  This sounds well suited for physical data
security and secure central maintenance of common databases (multi
user,task, cpu).  

Concerning my home lan w/ Suse 8.1 pro:  as of now I have installed
current "core" and "kernel" but the diskless workstation boots into
graphical Suse. I thought I had to install X stuff also, which I will do.
 I also notice my response time is muy dispacio although I am thrilled to
see it work at any speed.  Again thanks for the help. jr
