I've recently set up LTSP 3.0.7 on a Red Hat 8 server but encountered an
odd problem.
Everything works fine the first time or two that each client boots. After
that, if I boot the client it appears to connect ok, loads the kernal but
the screen starts flickering and I usually don't get a login screen
(although on one test I did after several minutes - this was not repeatable).
If I restart the DHCP process on the server, the clients can then start
perfectly. I haven't noticed any obvious errors on the server. The server
is a clone Duron machine with an ECS motherboard using the Reatek nic
chip. The clients are various models of clones, but all use the 3COM 3c905
nic. I was using a 5 port 100 Mbps SMC hub. Once the client boots
successfully, they work great so the system is otherwise stable. All the
equipment in question has been otherwise stable in non LTSP configurations.
Any ideas to help me diagnose this further are appreciated.
