I agree. The man page is at best unclear on this point.

Jim McQuillan also had this advice on IRC tonight: use the 
get-lease-hostnames on; or 
get-lease-hostnames true;

I have not yet had a chance to try this, neither had he.

Not yet in woody afaik. we are quite strict when it comes to that.

Yes, I know that, but this is not the case.
