I'll take a guess here, and suggest that when you did
the 'su' command to become super user, you didn't add the '-'
option to tell su to read the profiles. So, your path
isn't setup correctly to find the ldconfig command.
So, whenever you su to the superuser account, you should do it
like this:
su -
That way, your environment will be setup correctly.
