Title: Application management
Steve,

I'm going to take a look at IceWM. Have read some docs on it and the config seems simple, and it looks good to me.

Thnx for the advice all,

Michel

Michel,

I'm in the process of updating some much older LTSP servers for our organization.   Most are very old Mandrake 7.x boxes that have not been kept up to date.  I'm using icewm on both the old boxes and the new boxes-and must say that icewm looks and works a lot cleaner than the older version.  If your up for a change, that is.

Good Luck!
Steve

Hi Steve,

It's Gnome v2

In RH 7.x there was a menu manager but it's gone (or not functioning) in RH 8.0 A search in google groups told me that it's a known bug and I should wait for 8.1 which is in Beta at the moment. Or go back to 7.3.

I'm pressenting the system to the potential customer today so I won't risk going back today but will do when the client has left.

He will be suprised with the system as we have it now. It's a lot better then the Citrix solutions we are running here at the moment so that won't be a problem. and it's cost free as far as software conserned. :-)

Thnx for the reply,
Michel

Michael,

There is a way and usually involves modifying the menus for the particular window manager environment that you are using.  (kde, gnome, icewm, etc.)  Each will have their menus in slightly different places.  I know there is a way to limit the menus by group, but I've never needed that feature so I'm not sure how this is done.  Perhaps someone else would have that info and will provide it.  What is the window manager you are using?

Thanks,
Steve

Hi,

We're testing LTSP at the moment for (maybe) future use. A potential client would like to give it a try.

Had a basic setup working within 3 hours, 1 server 1 client.

Server is running RH 8.0

The question I have (i have more but will start with one) is the following.

I would like to offer the client just some applications and not all installed.

Is there an easy way of restricting what someone sees on the desktop (on a per user or group basis)?

Please point me in the right direction. Have been looking all day for documentation on this subject but can't find it.

As said we're runing RH 8.0 with Gnome desktop.

Kind regards,
Michel
