The ability to manage desktop policies globally is something
that Linux needs in general, not just specifically for LTSP.

I think that we, on this mailing list are just a bit closer to
the action, in terms of managing large numbers of desktops.

I've heard that the KDE guys are working towards managing the
desktop, and i've had meetings with some of the Gnome
developers regarding this issue.  We are probably still a few years
away from seeing really good desktop manageability.

Many of us have opted to use Icewm as the window manager, and
that gives us total control over the desktop that the user sees.
The menus and taskbar are configured via flat text files, and
it works quite well.   Plus, Icewm is very light weight, so it
doesn't put much of a burden on the server.  I highly recommend
it.
